In August 2009, we had the incredible opportunity to visit Costa Rica. Our journey into this pristine country with its beautiful, unspoiled rain forests, mountains and beaches only enhanced our passion for living more eco friendly lives and we came back re-energized and ready to tackle our next eco-projects with even more conviction!
In 2010, our travels took us to Mexico, Jamaica, the Caymen Islands and France.
In the Caymen Islands, you will find Cayman Sea Salt one of the purest and "greenest" salts that you can find near and far. This company is committed to the environment and have a policy to be as eco-friendly as possible. Their crystallization tables are made of recycled glass from sliding glass doors discarded after Hurricane Ivan.
In 2008 Cozumel, signed a groundbreaking partnership to help support eco-friendly practices in the popular cruise ship destination. Over the past few years , Conservation International has worked with Mexico’s tourism board, the city’s local government, and 17 cruise ship industry leaders to promote more sustainable practices in this region.
It seems that although there are many eco destinations in Jamaica and it is brimming with natural wonders, there is not alot of focus on being eco-friendly...there is one group, J.E.T. that supports protection of their environment through activities and programs focused on education and advocacy, I do hope they continue to grow and add more groups to their path to help save the beauty and resources of this country.
In France we learned that the French government has long been a strong supporter of the Kyoto agreement and the green movement. We were able to shop daily in markets to buy produce, much of which is sustainably and/or grown nearby. You can often meet local vineyard, jam, goat cheese, and honey producers as well as tasting the best that the area has to offer.
2011 was a far quieter year for exotic travel as we choose to stay closer to home and family and save for our next eco adventure in 2012 as we headed back to Costa Rica!
Our 2012 trip to Costa Rica was another mind blowing journey....I think my favorite stop were the days we spent at the Chachaqua Rain Forest. A pristine, yet elegant resort tucked into the rainforest.
Here are some of the pics from our last trip to Costa Rica...enjoy!
